Talbot County Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Michael D. Coley, Jr. as the new Principal of Central Elementary-High School (CEHS). With more than two decades of experience in education, leadership, and student development, Mr. Coley brings a dynamic and student-centered approach to the role.
Mr. Coley is an accomplished educational leader with 23 years of experience supporting academic achievement, school operations, and student success at both the school and district levels. He is widely recognized for his ability to build strong relationships among students, staff, families, and the community while fostering a positive and collaborative school culture.
Most recently, Mr. Coley has served in multiple leadership roles within the Quitman County School District, including CTAE Director, Assistant Principal, Dual Enrollment Coordinator, and Athletic Director. In these roles, he has overseen career and technical education programs, supported instructional leadership initiatives, implemented credit recovery programs, and strengthened partnerships with local colleges to expand student opportunities.
Prior to that, he served in Randolph County Schools as Director of Operations and Pupil Services, Assistant Principal, and Athletic Director. During his tenure, he improved operational systems, led disciplinary processes as a certified hearing officer, and enhanced financial management practices. He also played a key role in school safety planning and district-wide operations.
Mr. Coley began his career in Sumter County Schools, where he served as a Health and Physical Education Teacher, Graduation Coach, Head Basketball Coach, and Alternative School Director. His diverse experience in both instructional and leadership roles has equipped him with a well-rounded perspective on student success and school improvement.
He holds an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University, a Master of Science from Troy University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Fort Valley State University.
