Science fiction has brought to life an interesting variety of planets, some real and some not.
Some of you that have been around for a long time might remember that in 1934 readers of the newspaper comic strip Flash Gordon were introduced to the planet Mongo.
Mongo was the creation of Alex Raymond and Don W. Moore. Raymond was the comics artist behind Flash Gordon and Moore was a ghostwriter and magazine editor.
As envisioned, Mongo was about half the size of Earth, had an atmosphere comparable to Earth’s, with gravity slightly less than Earth’s, and four moons. It was a rogue planet that drifted into our Solar System.
So here we are again, after celebrating yet another President’s Day. I’ve told you here before that my idea of the best President was Chester A. Arthur - he didn’t do anything to mess things up, he tried to reform what he could, and he had the coolest sideburns.
My second-best President has to be William Henry Harrison, the ninth man to hold the office.
Why? Because he was only in office 31 days and didn’t have a chance to do anything goofy.
Hope your holiday was nice, and the trivia below is even nicer!
Who is Santa Claus, that is a question that has probably been asked for ages. Some believe the man is a legend, others believe he is a myth and just don’t care. However, Santa does have many personalities and many names throughout the world. Ever wonder how he makes it around the world in one night. Well this column may shed some light on that and the different Santa legends.
Here in America Santa dresses in a red suit, flies on a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer and is a jolly old soul and deliveries his gifts to children on Christmas Eve each year, unlike a counterpart we will talk about later.
Of course, we all know that our Santa actually originated from a historical figure, Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas was a bishop who was known for his generosity and kindness. Through his life of be compassionate and so giving, our Santa Claus was born.

Thanksgiving is behind us and the Christmas season is just around the corner. Ironically, the Friday after Thanksgiving kind of begins the Christmas season with all the shopping that happens on that day. Anyway, with Christmas not far away I’m going to begin my annual things you may or may not know about Christmas.
I like to research the Christmas traditions of other countries and cultures and I’m sometimes surprised by what I may read so I’m going to share some of those crazy things in this week’s column.
How about a giant Christmas goat? In Sweden, a giant straw goat that stands 42.6 free high and weighs in at a whopping 3.6 tons has been a part of the Christmas celebration since 1966. According to BestLife, The goat was created to draw shoppers to the Swedish city where it resides.
Here in the United States, part of the Christmas tradition is a large spread of food and deserts, most of all that are home cooked. In Japan Christmas dinner tradition is a little different.
